When songwriter Lisa Simmons approached us with her vision for a music video, we knew we had an opportunity to push creative boundaries. Rather than following the traditional route of featuring the artist, we embarked on a powerful storytelling journey that would bring her lyrics to life through visual metaphor and raw emotion.

The concept centered around a man packing up his family home post-divorce, with memories literally illuminating the spaces around him. Using a projector, we transformed ordinary walls and surfaces into living canvases of the past. This technical choice presented unique challenges – we had to carefully balance the projection brightness with our main lighting setup to ensure both the projected content and the actor’s emotional performance were captured perfectly. Our team experimented with various projection surfaces and angles until we found the sweet spot that allowed these ethereal memories to feel present and impactful.

What sets this project apart is how we approached the delicate subject matter of divorce. Rather than lean into the heaviness that often accompanies relationship endings, we worked closely with Lisa to craft moments of hope throughout the narrative. Each projected memory was carefully curated to show not just what was lost, but what was genuinely beautiful about the relationship. The final scene, where the wife pauses at the doorway, was intentionally crafted to leave viewers with a sense of possibility rather than finality – exactly what Lisa envisioned for her song’s message.

The Columbia, Tennessee location provided us with a perfect canvas – a historic home whose character added layers of authenticity to our story. Through careful location scouting and production design, we transformed the space into a visual representation of a life in transition, where every room held its own emotional weight.

The final piece resonates with audiences precisely because it balances technical innovation with authentic storytelling. By choosing to tell the story through projections, we created a visual language that speaks to both the permanence of memories and the ethereal nature of relationships. For future clients, this project demonstrates our ability to take complex emotional narratives and translate them into compelling visual experiences that connect with viewers on a deeply human level.
